Book Project

The problem faced is to turn an average book, black and white or color, into something else, to completely get rid of the book. I chose a black and white book and at first was thinking of doing something abstract like but support was an issue, pages were too heavy and in the end were making the piece lopsided. So, I changed my idea to a mini field of flowers. I found the middle of the book and ripped pages from each side to keep it even, and made flowers out of those pages, tearing strips to wrap around the stem to add texture. I then began to make strips in the remaining pages of the book and rolled the to create a textured ground which I felt would give a more field like feeling. After the critique I realized I should do something more with the cover of the book because as of now it still has a book like feeling to it. So I will be working further on this project to eliminate the cover in some way, most likely trimming it and fraying the edges.

Anything But A Box Reaction Paper

The dictionary definition of creativity is “having the power or ability to create”. My favorite quoted definition of creativity is “marked by originality”. I personally find creativity to be a mixture of the heart and brain working together to form a work of art. Everyone’s art is unique and has individuality because it comes from their heart.
I chose the creative career because I love the design process. Colors, shapes, etc always attracted and I’ve always felt the need to experiment with them.
I approached the problem first based on the size of the box. I was using a basic shoebox. Then I went to colors next and tried to think up ways of coordinating them. So in the end I decided on a willow tree with purple and pink leaves and the typical brown trunk and branches. I put them together by shaping out the box first by drawing an outline on the box and then carefully cutting it out and using my hot glue gun to stick the together. Then I used the colored sides of the box and cut out waving looking leaves to create the willow tree look.
